Planning Retirement Courses Making the Most of Retirement

Retirement is one of the most significant changes that any of us will ever experience.

Everyone approaches retirement differently and with a mix of emotions, some of us can’t wait and others of us will be worried or even fearful.

Planning for retirement courses are more important today than they have ever been. We are much healthier, much more active and can expect to live much longer – a whole new phase of life and opportunity is opening up. Unlike other phases of life, this time there is less structure. For the first time we are faced with a period of maybe 30 years when we essentially write our own ‘job description’. That requires plenty of thought and planning, to avoid pitfalls and to ensure we make the most of it and enjoy a balanced retirement.

You can take a big step by getting some expert advice through a retirement course on how to make the most of your retirement, thereby making your remaining time in employment as stress-free and productive as possible.

It is important to recognise that many retirement courses still focus far too heavily on just the financial side of retirement, even if lifestyle aspects are in theory covered. Although finance is important it should not be dominant because the lifestyle aspects of retirement and decisions about them are fundamental to making the most of retirement.

In the past many retirement courses have also focused too much on information giving. A good course will also include methods that cause the individual to examine each aspect of retirement from their own point of view and encourage discussion between delegates.

Value to the individual of Retirement Courses

A retirement course that provides the right balance will lead to a number of benefits for attendees including

• Overcoming concerns and fears, making retirement an opportunity to look forward to.

• Making attendees of the retirement course consider retirement in a way they won’t have done before and as a result clearly identifying both the issues that need to be addressed and the opportunities. Raising new areas to consider even for those who have done a lot of thinking about retirement. Making them aware of common pitfalls.

• Making the level of change they are about to undergo clear and the retirement course will enable them to produce a personal plan which makes their transition to retirement smooth

• Generating lots of ideas for enjoying retirement – their own, their colleagues’, and the tutor’s. Different perspectives help them develop their own plan.

• Understanding how their relationship with their partner and others may be affected and the importance of planning this together (ideally attending the retirement course together)

Concise Computer Consulting of Clarkston says Computer Virus Repair is the only Answer to Remove Harmful Software: Virus, Spyware & Pop-ups

Viruses:

Viruses – A virus is a small piece of software that replicates itself. A virus might attach itself to a program such as a spreadsheet program. Each time the spreadsheet program runs, the virus runs, too, and it has the chance to reproduce (by attaching to other programs) or wreak havoc. E-mail viruses – An e-mail virus moves around in e-mail messages, and usually replicates itself by automatically mailing itself to dozens of people in the victim’s e-mail address book. Worms – A worm is a small piece of software that uses computer networks and security holes to replicate itself. A copy of the worm scans the network for another machine that has a specific security hole. It copies itself to the new machine using the security hole, and then starts replicating from there, as well. Trojan horses – A Trojan horse is simply a computer program. The program claims to do one thing (it may claim to be a game, or a “free” piece of software) but instead does damage when you run it (it may erase your hard disk). Trojan horses have no way to replicate automatically. They are called Trojan horses because they are sometimes disguised as normal computer programs.

Spyware:

Spyware is defined as any software that covertly gathers user information through the user’s Internet connection without his or her knowledge, usually for advertising purposes. Spyware applications are typically bundled as a hidden component of freeware or shareware programs that can be downloaded from the Internet; however, it should be noted that the majority of shareware and freeware applications do not come with spyware. Once installed, the spyware monitors user activity on the Internet and transmits that information in the background to someone else. Spyware can also gather information about e-mail addresses and even passwords and credit card numbers.

Spyware often causes “pop-up” advertisements to appear on the user’s screen, without the user’s knowledge or consent. These pop-ups can be quite a headache, and spyware itself often slows down computers to a slow crawl.

Because spyware exists as independent executable programs, they have the ability to monitor keystrokes, scan files on the hard drive, snoop other applications, such as chat programs or word processors, install other spyware programs, read cookies, change the default home page on the Web browser, consistently relaying this information back to the spyware author who will either use it for advertising/marketing purposes or sell the information to another party. When the home page of your web browser changes without your knowledge or consent, this is referred to a home-page hijacking.

Sometimes, a computer is so badly infected with viruses and spyware that the harmful software cannot be removed without completely formatting the hard drive (deleting all files) and reinstalling the operating system. Now is when you contact your computer repair store.  Ask for the computer virus repair technician.  The tech will offer a data backup solution and note which programs you had installed, and then perform a BFR (Backup, Format, Reinstall, Restore) on your system. When the virus and spyware removal is completed, ask for instructions on how to run the programs that were installed to prevent viruses and spyware from compromising your system in the future.

Treating Your Pet for Fleas and Ticks

Before you can learn to take care of fleas and, you have to know where the pet picked them up and the lifestyle of both insects. Fleas are typically related to warm, humid, and wet climates, such as ponds, lakes, mud puddles, and grassy, wooded areas. For ticks you are going to find a warm, humid or dry climate with a lot of woods is the best place for any dog or cat to come home with a traveling friend. Ticks generally live in trees and plants, which means when a dog or cat jumps into the plant, the tick jumps ship in favor of a live host.

How can you tell if your pet is afflicted? First, a dog or cat with fleas is going to be scratching a certain area more frequently. It could be the ear, back of the neck, leg, or their back. You may not notice the presence of fleas or ticks until you yourself are bitten and develop tiny red welts that will itch. To locate ticks on your pet, an in-depth look is required. Most ticks will hide near the ears, back of the neck or back—they tend to go for soft skin areas. They will get under the fur and then bury their heads under the skin. To find these critters, you have to move aside the hair and slowly comb through. Fleas can usually be noticed while the pet is scratching, as the fleas will jump to a different area of their host.

Fleas and ticks develop rather quickly from larvae to adults. They will sprout young on a pet and therefore can be very dangerous. Ticks can actually pass on heartworms in the bloodstream that they are carrying around as well as Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever.

If you live in an area prevalent for the insects, you should administer a medicated treatment every month. The medication is topical, meaning it is applied to the skin rather than ingested. There are also flea and tick collars that are moderately helpful in keeping the ticks and fleas away. Once a dog or cat has been infected with fleas you will need to give them a bath using a flea/tick shampoo or powder. Read the label to determine if it is intended for your animal (cat, dog, etc.) and whether there is an age limit for your pet, as some cannot be used on pets younger than 3 months. This bath should be done outside if possible to avoid contamination of the home. With ticks, you will find prevention is the best, but if a pet does have a tick, there are a few methods of removal. Alcohol, vinegar, or other acidic solutions will burn the tick and the head will come loose from the skin. At this point you can use tweezers or a similar instrument to completely remove the tick.

Starting a Successful Creative Scrapbooking Business, Part I

Creative scrapbooking has taken the world by storm. It’s relaxing, fun, social… and, let’s face it, incredibly addictive! After all, what scrapbooker doesn’t smile with pride when she or he finishes a decorative project?

If you have the talent to create eye-catching, creative scrapbooks, you can actually turn your hobby into a lucrative creative scrapbooking career. In this three-part series, we’ll show you some of the secrets to running a home-based creative scrapbooking company that regularly adds extra coins to your coffers!

Why Creative Scrapbooking?

People from all walks of life have photos and mementoes cluttering their homes. They’d love to organize and arrange them, but don’t have the time (or, in some cases, the ability.) That’s where you, as a professional scrapbooker, can step in!

Through creative scrapbooking, you can create delightful, entertaining, and touching memory books that will be certain to have a very long shelf life. Imagine… your scrapbook creations could someday become precious family heirlooms passed down from generation to generation!

What Types of Scrapbooks Sell?

Creative scrapbooking is an incredibly versatile field because you have virtually no boundaries. Graduation scrapbooks, family tree scrapbooks, baby scrapbooks, wedding scrapbooks, and achievement scrapbooks are only a few of the countless styles of creative scrapbooking inventions you can market.

Use your imagination; anything that’s relatively flat can go into a scrapbook, so the sky’s the limit.

Can Scrapbooking Really Be Profitable?

Creative scrapbooking, as with any legitimate business, won’t make you rich overnight. But if you’re determined and plan your creative scrapbooking operation pragmatically, you can absolutely make money from this burgeoning industry.

Best of all, creative scrapbooking is a low overhead industry. You’ll need to start with a modest amount of scrapbooking supplies, but you can build your stock over time thanks to fast shipping and wholesale prices offered at Internet scrapbooking supply stores.

How Can I Start Professionally Scrapbooking?

Obviously, the first step to starting a creative scrapbooking company (even one with a single employee, aka “you”) is to develop a business plan. This document should include an overview, financial information (including income and expense projections, marketing ideas, local competition statistics, and realistic growth rates.

Though you may not be able to find exact data to work into your creative scrapbooking business plan, try to be as complete as possible. The more information you include, the better your chances of success.

Do I Need Any Formal Training?

Though there are no credentials needed to call yourself a creative scrapbooking pro, you may want to take a few community courses on scrapbooking design. Doing so will keep you “in the know” as far as the latest products and trends are concerned; it will also provide you with fresh ideas to propose when working with clientele.

What Do I Need in Terms of Stock?

One of the most essential items you’ll need to start a creative scrapbooking venture is scrapbooking paraphernalia. Chances are, you already have some supplies around your home, but if they aren’t organized, it’s time do so.

Invest in some bins (dollar stores have a plethora of options) and label them according to scrapbooking supplies, such as stickers, papers, backgrounds, adhesives, albums, markers, scrapbooking magazines (for inspiration), and borders. This way, you’ll always know exactly how much of each scrapbooking necessity you have and can order more before you run out.

Do I Need to Rent a Space for My Scrapbooking Business?

Though it would certainly be wonderful to have an “offsite” locale for your creative scrapbooking enterprise, it’s more likely that you’ll need to make due with your current digs.

Anything from a corner of your family room to a renovated closet can serve as your creative scrapbooking “headquarters”. Just make certain that you have enough space and light to work your magic and store your scrapbooking supplies!

What Will I Tell My Family?

If you’re worried about “breaking” the news to your family that you’re setting off on an entrepreneurial scrapbooking journey, you’re not alone. Many first-time business owners are reticent to reveal their plans to loved ones for fear that their significant others will not be supportive.

With that said, it’s critical to the long-term success of your creative scrapbooking business that you have the “buy in” of your kin. So take a deep breath, muster up all your courage, and boldly state, “I’m going to become a professional scrapbooker! And when the money starts coming in, the first dinner out is on me!”

The Next Step

Are you eager to start your creative scrapbooking adventure? In our next article, we’ll explore how to set your prices and market and advertise your home-based scrapbooking services…

Michele Cardello, director of marketing and creative for Life Imprints, a creative scrapbooking supplies company also offering contemporary picture frames, in Cleveland, Ohio, has worked in the photo packaging industry for 10 years. Cardello helps customers find creative ways to preserve and appreciate a lifetime of memories.

It causes Problems in traffic when the lights malfunction, it can impact entire enterprises if their systems go down and it is simply a major inconvenience. Computer fix firms have become extremely popular due to how much people have come to rely on them when computers malfunction.

It is Cheaper to Holiday Abroad than in the UK

If you were asked where the cheapest place to have a holiday would be I think you would go along with most other people and say stay here in the UK to get the cheapest holiday. However it turns out the price of a holiday in Turkey is the lowest. While the cost of a self-catering week in the UK is good value, once you add in the daily cost of shopping for food and other holiday essentials and small luxuries you will find the cost in the UK is far higher than it is in Turkey. Thus the total cost of a holiday in the UK turns out to be far more expensive than many would think.

Going with an all inclusive holiday means you know exactly what you are spending before you leave for the majority of your costs and can not only save you more money than buying separately but gives you the piece of mind that you know you can afford the holiday.

If you don’t fancy Turkey then have a look at prices for holidays in Egypt, Greece, Portugal and the Canary Islands which are the next best value locations. We are receiving a lot of conflicting information such as stay out of the Euro zone because of the low exchange rate for Sterling Pound to Euro however the cost of a cheaper shopping basket and the availability of cheaper hotel rooms in locations such as Spain makes up for the lower amount in currency you would receive.

As it looks like the so called ‘barbeque summer’ will no longer happen and the UK will suffer plenty of rain and poor weather you can holiday abroad this year and not only pretty much guarantee sunshine if you go to Turkey or one of the other cheap locations but the overall cost of the holiday will be cheaper than in the UK.

We are almost into August so time is running out to book  cheap holidays however if you have the time do a bit of research on holiday deals; don’t accept the first one that comes along as there are many bargains to be had. If you can avoid school holidays then you can find even cheaper holidays.

Kim has 5 years experience in the travel industry. She enjoys writing articles on different holiday locations and travel tips.

Choosing a Family Pet

When you have kids, they can often drive you crazy by hounding for a dog or a cat. Some parents are reluctant to give their child a pet due to fear of the animal harming the child being forefront in their minds. There are many dog and cat breeds that you can have in your home that will do really well for you and your family—even with small children. There are, of course, some precautions to make.

First, we will look at dog breeds. There are certain dog breeds that demand respect and kids often don’t have those feelings. Most children do not understand that pulling on the pet’s tail or stroking too roughly can not only harm the animal, but make it resentful of the child. You can of course work with your child to help him develop proper pet-handling behavior, but you should first consider starting out with a pet breed that is best for children. For instance, the following dog breeds are well-known for being especially good with children: St. Bernards, Golden and Labrador Retrievers, Great Danes, German Shepherds, Poodles, Siberian Huskies, and Mastiffs. While you do have to be careful about their size and make sure they are socialized and housetrained, they make wonderful pets. They are very affectionate and tend to exercise care and protectiveness of the children. These dog breeds will also stand up to a certain amount of abuse. If the child pulls on the tail or accidentally falls into them they are more likely to be worried and protective rather than distasteful or aggressive. You do have to teach your kid to be respectful, but generally these dogs as pets will offer a wonderful family addition.

In general, most cats are going to have issues with children. With cats, who are not as easy to train, you will find they tend to nip or bite a child who pulls their ears/tail or hurts them in any way. It is the cat’s way of showing anger. Cats by nature tend to choose one owner. This owner usually showers them with affection and treats them properly. If you do introduce a cat into your household, you should make sure your children are old enough to understand and exercise the proper treatment of it. Typically you want a child no younger than three dealing with any pet, especially cats. At this age the kid is old enough to understand right from wrong and deal with the pain if the cat bites them for a good reason. Some cats you may want in your home include the Abyssinian, American bobtail, American shorthair, Balinese, Birman, Bombay, Burmese, Manx, Persian, and Siberian. Typically you should not have a Siamese cat around children, as they tend to be very moody and are often one who demands respect. When you consider getting a pet for your child, it is important to realize that not all pets are great for a home.

Concise Computer Consulting of Farmington Hills Saves Their Clients from Identity Theft with On Site Computer Repair

Jeff Atto, Business Manager for Concise, noticed the uptick rate of illegal virus and malware incidents in the summer months of June and July.  He explained the unusual activity that included:

Vulnerabilities in the Microsoft Windows Operating System Opening e-mails from suspicious and unknown sources with attachments Visiting websites which claim to offer “free” software, music or video downloads File sharing websites

Concise was created to help small businesses with various technological needs such as onsite computer repair, offsite data protection, disaster recovery solutions, computer repair training, and data backup services.  Lately, ConcisePC has been responding to client demand for anti-virus and anti-spyware protection.

The damage to a business with a compromised informational technology system is catastrophic.  With bank accounts larger than an individual’s, a small business has the responsibility of protecting the critical personal information of its customers and vendors.  The result comes in the form of law suits, credit fraud and quite possibly the demise of the business itself.

Jeff Atto and the entire staff at Concise advise and educate their clients to be proactive to avoid a scenario mentioned above.  “There are plenty of actions that a client can choose,” offered Jeff.  “These actions are covered by our services that cost nothing compared to the devastation of a viral invasion or an illegal computer hack job.”

Concise Computer Consulting services the small and medium sized business community as well as residential homeowners.  Concise offers every kind of on site computer service:  laptop repair service, online pc repair, pc tech support and computer trouble shooting. Concise also offers Remote access configuration, Virtual Private Networks (VPN), Web site design, Server Administration, and Preventive maintenance in the metropolitan Detroit area.  In addition, Concise diagnoses, installs, and manages both wired and wireless Local Area Networks, and even resells computers, laptops, and servers for Dell and IBM.
